| METAL FABRICATION | John Faulkner was raised in a number of cities: Chicago, New Orleans, Oakland, and St. John in the Virgin Islands, just to name a few. He says his love for creating began when he worked for a salvage company in California, where there was an endless supply of material with which to work. While in California, John honed his metal fabrication skills while working with Performance Structures, Inc. He joined the welding team that fabricated Anish Kapoor’s, colossal, Cloud Gate Sculpture, currently installed at Millennium Park in Chicago. After a move to North Carolina, John developed his love of metal fabrication and dedication to reuse, into a new collection of furniture, lighting and architectural applications. Recently, John demolished an old home in Weaverville, and discovered the house had been constructed with Long-leaf Heart Pine. Before the Industrial Revolution, Long-leaf Pine covered vast swaths of the Southern United States, spanning an estimated 92 million acres. Only a fraction of these forests remain today. It is this devotion to honoring “buried treasure” that infuses John’s work. |
